Answer: The number of Brighter Prospects scholarships awarded each year is determined by bpTT in the following areas:

Two scholarships are awarded for the pursuit of Master's degrees.

N.B. All year 1 medical students will be automatically considered for the Jerome Alexander Scholarship.

How can I apply for a Brighter Prospects scholarship?

Can I apply for a Brighter Prospects scholarship if I have received another scholarship or bursary?
No, you are not eligible to apply for a Brighter Prospects scholarship award if you are currently receiving another scholarship or bursary.

I previously received a Brighter Prospects scholarship for my undergraduate studies and now I have been accepted to do my Master's degree. Will I automatically receive a Brighter Prospects scholarship for pursuit of my Master's degree? How do I apply for a Brighter Prospects scholarship for pursuit of my Master's degree?
No, if you would like to receive a scholarship to pursue a Master's degree you will need to reapply to the Brighter Prospects scholarship awards programme.

What is the duration of the Brighter Prospects scholarship award?
The Brighter Prospects scholarship is awarded for the following maximum duration limits, depending on the programme category (full-time or part-time status): Certificate / Diploma: up to 1 year; Associate Degree: up to 2 years; Undergraduate Degree: up to 3 years; Undergraduate Degree for Nursing: up to 4 years; Postgraduate Degree: up to 2 years; Medical Degree: up to 5 years.

What do I have to do to maintain my award?
To maintain your award you must maintain a GPA of 2.5 and above – you will be required to upload unofficial/official copies of your transcripts to your online profile by the end of February and July of each academic year.

What happens to my award if I: change my degree programme/transfer to another tertiary level institution/need a leave of absence from my studies/my graduation date has changed
You are required to notify us in writing if any of the above has occurred and the committee will consider the merits of each case.

How often must I update my profile?
You are required to update your profile information as soon as any of your data becomes outdated.

Who selects the scholarship award winners?
The Brighter Prospects committee, comprising community representatives, evaluates and selects award winners.

How will I be notified if I have been selected to receive an award?
An automated email from bp Trinidad and Tobago's Communications and Advocacy Department will be sent to successful and unsuccessful applicants.

How will the scholarship funds be disbursed?
All scholarship funds will be paid via wire-transfer to the bank accounts of successful applicants. All successful scholarship applicants are required to enter their banking details in their database profile.
